THANKS KEN
Ken Carter has been building mini engines for over 20 years now. He is the former owner of PVK (Pomona Valley Kawasaki). Ken has worked on KTM's, Cobras, PRCs, Kawasakis, Suzukis and Metrakits from 50s to 85s. Ken has helped little riders from all over the world, even as far as Norway and Australia.
They call Ken the Guru because he knows so much when it comes to the mini engine. Ken is constantly coming up with new ways to make a small engine perfom more efficiently. Ken developes new "secrets" that eventually become the trend in all mini motors. I don't know what they are, so don't bother asking me. There are some things that he will tell no one until next year, of course, when he figures out something a little bit better. Then he shares his last years technology with everyone without even bothering to patent anything. Its not about the money, its about the race. Technology is Ken's race.
Ken likes to build the bike to the kid. I would recommend that if you are ordering engine work from far away and Ken has not seen your child ride, send along a video of your little racer. Ken takes riding style into account when dialing in the bike. Also, what kind of tracks you plan on riding in the near future. The same engine does not provide top performance for every racer. Ken will balance riding style, upcoming track layout, and altitude/environmental factors into the best and safest bike for your child.
Ken has been my friend for years. He is an incredibly loyal person. I have seen him go out of his way and stay up night and day to prepare bikes for his racers for an up and coming event. He also likes to go to the races if he can get away, not only to provide technical and moral support but also because he enjoys watching the kids ride.
Don't tell him I told you but, I like to call him Gandolf because he looks (with his long hair and his glasses on the end of his nose) and acts (with his gentle countenance) more and more like a wizard as time goes by.
He is the typical absent minded scientist in that he can defy Newton's Laws when it comes to an engine, yet he cannot remember where he placed his car keys. That is where I come in. When we get completely moved into the new shop, I can liberate him from many of the organizational duties of running the business and he can concentrate on what he (and only he) knows best. I believe that we will make a great team and provide the best support for your little racer. They work so hard and we work hard for them. They say that motocross is not a team sport but it really is. It takes the whole family, of course as you know, and training and technical support too. We will do everything in our power to make the best little bike for your rider.
Ken likes a peanut butter & jelly sandwhich for lunch especially when it is made by one of his little racers. He says that it tastes so much better that way. So, if you see him at the track, make him a PB & J.
